Food Myths

Stand Proud,

PROTEIN MYTH
BEEF VS BLACK BEANS
CALCIUM MYTH
FISH VS FLAXSEED
IRON MYTH
CHICKEN VS CHICK PEAS
HOW DID IT START?

We are all so passionate about food; it has been linked with our social tribe culture for centuries—to memories of friends and family. To good times and also to our core beliefs, to the earliest memories and moments we have in life.

Yet at 40 years old I had a body that wasn't very tuned. But I didn't know it. All my life I had eaten and been fed around the social practices of food in Sydney, Australia. Meat and three vegetable dinners and lots of milk for calcium, protein, and iron are why we ate meat. Yes, I did eat lots of fruit and am thankful for having a family that provided fruit in abundance.

There was also a large focus on breads and fast food, from Pizza Hut to McDonald's and KFC, and lots of sweets were promoted. I didn't know any better; it was just the way it was. Very similar in some ways to a spoiled child, who is innocent and reactive to the environment they are born into. As children, we not only believe our parents, but we are born into societies where certain social constructs exist, and some things that really are not good are accepted as standard practice and just part of life.

I lived in the social construct and had terrible body image issues, also not in the best health. At 44 years old, I was 130 kg and didn't have much energy.

It was in the early forties that everything changed. I started to question everything in life, everything that I had believed without solid evidence. It was about challenging myself to be really honest with myself so I could be honest with my children in every way, and how could I do that if I just blindly followed some social norm that I hadn't tested or sought scientific proof for? For me it all started with learning and discovering what the body is capable of and how much nutrition we actually need. I challenged so many things.
- Cut meals down to one per day with two small snacks
- Cut carbohydrates and processed sugar from my diet, even potatoes and beetroots
- Cut packaged foods; only fresh food moving forward
- Cut meat and dairy
- Limited nuts to a handful per day
I implemented all these modifications and incorporated extended strolls into my daily regimen. Trying to walk between 7,500 and 10,000 steps per day.

I started feeling amazing in a very short period of time.

In this section I will uncover the myths I was brought up on and what industries are promoted to get you to buy their products.

I only suggest being open to the fact that powerful propaganda has been influencing us more than we knew. If you would like to wake up and be aware, continue reading and be open-minded.

I'm a pretty sarcastic guy at times. I do not believe things on a whim; I need evidence, proof, great logic, and feeling to change. Some things in life just have a smell about them that makes you question further and challenge previously held notions. That's how I felt: one fact after the next, one story after the next, as I read, just seemed to make sense.

After watching movies, reading books, and just thinking about aligning to my core values of kindness. Changing my food notions from previously held ideals seemed to be gaining traction. I still wasn't convinced, so after a month or two of research, I had to test the theory and break away from previously held notions to the possibility that I had been hoodwinked into eating what is essentially unhealthy and very bad for the planet overall.

It was a massive change, but it was just so obvious to me because it aligned with my values. From that day forward, I felt better and better, more alive, losing weight, more active, and vibrant, with no more mood swings or lethargy in the afternoons. Cutting sugar was hard for the first 4 days, but post that change I felt a clarity of mind that just blew me away.

That's when all the research started to make sense because the reality was I was feeling amazing.
