2021 the garden and beach have been our respite

It's a crazy world, and gardening is our peaceful place.
Blessed to live in such a beautiful place, strolls by the water and beach swims have kept us sane. So feel for everyone out there struggling in the suburbs with little to no nature around. Feeling blessed.

Summer of 2020 go away covid

2020 the Covid year and El-Ninio (huge rain system).
The Garden suffered a little from just awkward weather, too much rain not enough sun.
We did manage though to get some fresh ginger roots in the dirt. The results we will show on harvest. We are looking  to start growing more expensive produce herbs and maybe even get some mushies and garlic soon Stay Tuned.

2019 a little pull back

After a extreme summer of heat in late 2018/2019 we lost a lot of our garden due to persistence heat and water restrictions. We started the rebuild again early in the year around mid February, planting some winters and autumns. Now November 2019 we are happy with the results. Encouraging bees was a huge assistance, so happy with our leeks, english spinach and our citrus productions.

2018 Garden update

Wow, well we didnt expect so much progress, in just a year we have sprouted finger limes, chillis, red flesh apples, peaches, chilli's, capsicums, blueberries, baby tomatoes, lettuce, beetroots, potatoes, kale, lemon and limes, flowers and so many herbs.

We have found basil is a tough one in a salty air environment, got to watch out for black scale and caterpillar bugs. A chilli water spray seems to be most effective for both, and we apply it weekly.

First update mid spring

Great to have the plants popping, all mostly from seed.
The only additions not from seed were the mandarin, blueberry, peach, lime, and apple trees.
Snows peas and beans doing great, as is the baby spinach.
Herbs are thriving here - mint, sage, rosemary, basil and thyme.
Bring on summer when we will be looking to harvest, beetroots, cauliflower, sweet and ordinary potatoes, carrots, kale, zucchini, onions, capsicums, lettuce, cabbage and loads of chilli's.
Give us some suggestions of things you would like us to grow and remember you can always create space or find/establish a community garden in your local area.

starting our balcony garden

Utilise the space you have in and around your house or apartment. We dont need a lot of space to grow healthy fruit and vegetables from seed on a budget.

Roofs, balconies, ledges and there is even some indoor plants that thrive. We planted our vegetable garden from scratch in early September 2017, all from seed. What do we have growing?
Sweet Potato, Potato, onions, garlic, tomatoes, zucchini, spring onion, cauliflower, carrots, cucumbers, chillies, capsicums, leaks, betroot, snow peas, beans, baby spinach, iceberg lettuce, broccoli and corn. We keep adding delights as we go.

In mid September we added some fruit trees bought from Bunnings, blueberries, a red flesh apples tree, peach tree, mandarins, lime and finger limes.

Herbs we have a host, from standard mint, plus vietnamese mint, rosemary, basil, sage, lemon thyme, and recently i started a pot of vietnamese herbs including one of my favourites betal leaves.
Join us as we grow a balcony garden and try to generate all our food needs from home.

Food comes from nature to us free. Plants enrich life by providing an endless bounty of fruits and vegetables without taking any life.

Harvest a plants fruits and vegetables and the plant reacts by growing even more in abundance. Propogate and have plants everywhere enriching our lives.

I hope you all can start growing at home, get free food, save money, stop the majors from pacakaging food in plastic.

What could be more convenient free food from your backyard or balcony.

Is it not as hard as you think, even if growing from seed.
